PERSEPSI MAHASISWA TERHADAP TOLERANSI BERAGAMA DI LINGKUNGAN KAMPUS UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MEDAN

Abstrak

Toleransi beragama di lingkungan kampus memiliki peranan penting dalam menjaga kedamaian, terutama dalam ruang lingkup kampus Universitas Negeri Medan. Perguruan tinggi menjadi tempat perbedaan ras, suku, budaya terutama agama. Toleransi beragama masih menjadi persoalan di Indonesia. Negeri ini sebagai bangsa yang majemuk masih menghadapi tantangan dalam menyikapi keberagaman. Bahkan dalam konteks masyarakat, konflik sosial juga masih terjadi dan kekerasan atas nama perbedaan juga masih sering didengar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap toleransi beragama di lingkungan kampus Universitas Negeri Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain survei deskriptif. Populasi penelitian mencakup seluruh mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Medan, dengan sampel sebanyak 100 mahasiswa dari berbagai fakultas yang diambil secara acak menggunakan teknik stratified random sampling untuk memastikan representasi dari setiap fakultas. Hasil penelitian ini mahasiswa menunjukkan sikap positif dan menerima toleransi beragama di lingkungan kampus Universitas Negeri Medan. Dilihat dari semua respon mahasiswa setuju dengan pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang memiliki Indikator penelitian mencakup empat aspek: menghargai, menerima perbedaan, menghormati, dan tidak memaksa. Tanggapan atau penilaian mahasiswa terhadap toleransi beragama di lingkungan kampus sudah sangat baik, yang di tunjukkan dengan adanya sikap kooperatif antar mahasiswa untuk menjalin hubungan komunikasi yang baik dan saling menghargai antar sesama mahasiswa.

Religious tolerance in the campus environment has an important role in maintaining peace, especially within the scope of the Medan State University campus. Higher education is a place of racial, ethnic, cultural, especially religious differences. Religious tolerance is still a problem in Indonesia. This country is a nation Pluralism still faces challenges in responding to diversity. Even in the context of society, social conflicts still occur and violence in the name of differences is still often heard of. This research aims to determine students' perceptions of religious tolerance in the Medan State University campus environment. This research uses quantitative methods with a descriptive survey design. The research population included all Medan State University students, with a sample of 100 students from various faculties taken randomly using stratified random sampling techniques to ensure representation from each faculty. The results of this research show that students show a positive attitude and accept religious tolerance in the Medan State University campus environment. Judging from all student responses, they agree with the questions that have research indicators covering four aspects: respect, acceptance of differences, respect, and not forcing. Students' responses or assessments of religious tolerance in the campus environment have been very good, which is shown by the cooperative attitude between students to establish good communication relationships and mutual respect between fellow students.
